A second sprawling Glorious Trainwrecks Knytt Stories collaboration, this time created in celebration of Knytt Stories’ 10th birthday, and for Fubaka’s Epic KS Level Competition, Mark II (in which it placed second). Contributors this time include atuun, Danni, ncrecc, SavourySnack, Vegetal Gibber, xZilas, and myself. This level is huge, difficult, and makes use of various Knytt Stories Plus features. Ergo:
REDPRISON is a compilation of entries to the REDPRISON game jam, organised by Daniel P. Lopez in response to the game REDPRISON by FUCKGAMEDEV. Like much of FUCKGAMEDEV’s output, REDPRISON was initially available as a “unique experience” purchasable by only one person. Copies were subsequently offered to participants in the game jam, and the game can still be obtained in this manner.
Two more ostensible entries in the Oh Man Go Time series, though there are virtually no thematic links with earlier levels. At this point, I can’t even say they’re sequels in name only thanks to acronymisation. omgt4 is an earnest attempt at horror created for the Halloween-themed Klik of the Month Klub #76. It features “ultra-spooky mode (not recommended for first-time players)” which can be enabled by walking all the way to the left before entering the house.
omgt5: fever dream was made for Knytt of the Month Klub #11 and is more of a puzzle, the solution to which is “as easy as A, B, C!” …provided you’re familiar with the Knytt Stories editor and willing to try various esoteric actions. Of course, if you’re uninterested in puzzles there’s still a small glitch-themed environment to explore, scored by the smooth sounds of Goto80 and the Uwe Schenk Band.
Five more flickgame creations, made during the wee hours of the night for hourly flickgame day.
2:00am kicks off the collection with an ambient assortment of night scenes. Next, herein lies remixes my favourite scenes from previous flickgames therein lies and wherein lies, while snailed it references the title and ending of nailed it despite being otherwise dissimilar. The snail theme continues with snailpoke, a snail poking simulator. Last up is threadbarren, a sequel of sorts to threadbare, though made alone rather than in collaboration. Note that all older flickgames mentioned can be found here.
For Klik of the Month Klub #104, I sought to revive possibly the most overlooked game in my oeuvre, a 2010 collaboration with Liam Bowen called Soccer Judge: The Revenge. The initial result of this was Soccer Judge 2: The Inciting Incident, sadly made without Liam as he wasn’t free. He did turn out to be free the day after though, so we got the team back together to make Soccer Judge III: Redemption, and also brought on Lucy Xia as a creative consultant. This third entry in the franchise draws a lot of inspiration (and some ripped sprites) from Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney.
My submission to the MAKE A GAME BUT DONT LET ANYBODY PLAY IT JAM. Schrödinger’s Tamagotchi is a virtual pet that, like Schrödinger’s cat, is simultaneously both alive and dead until opened. It is distributed inside a password-protected archive for which no password is given, effectively stopping anybody from even viewing the game. Downloading it is likely pointless. Nonetheless…
flickmabel is a face clicker with a custom colour palette made for Healy’s Gravity Falls Impromptu Game Jam. It is the final instalment of my project At the Mabels of Madness, a series of nearly 500 pieces of Gravity Falls fan art that spanned four years. Also worth mentioning here is the 300th instalment, a plingpling board entitled Marbles of Madness.
tree vandalism is a test of hugs’ flickflag mod, made in an hour. aflicktions is an abstract, barely interactive slideshow (that also features a custom colour palette). It was made for Marek Kapolka’s DADADADADADA event. Lastly, luftballon is a test of Lavelle’s own flickgame jr variation, made for Klik of the Month Klub #103.
For the 2016 edition of 24 Hour Zine Making Challenge, I mixed things up by giving the reigns of my scout series to Liam Bowen, who produced the official third entry, The Saga of the Shifty Space Scout. In exchange, I made an interactive zine inspired by Seeing With Closed Eyes, Liam’s ongoing comic series based on his dreams. The zine debuted at Auckland Zinefest 2016 with 16 hand-painted variant covers, and after the event I made a crude browser-based version which can be played below by clicking the numbers offered. If no numbers are given, you have reached an ending and can backtrack with your browser’s back button.
